OKLAHOMA CITY – The Cherokee Nation honored Delaware Resource Group of Oklahoma, LLC (DRG) with the 2017 Certified Indian Business Community Leadership Award. The award was given at the Cherokee TERO conference and awards dinner Thursday at the Cherokee Nation’s Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tulsa
DRG is a Native American-owned global defense contractor headquartered in Oklahoma City. The company is owned and operated by the Busey family who are citizens of the Cherokee Nation.
The award was given in recognition of the community support DRG provides to El Sistema Oklahoma, an after school youth orchestra program within Oklahoma City Public Schools.
DRG founders Phil and Cathy Busey established the renowned after school youth orchestra program and both the Busey family and DRG continue to support the program through various opportunities.
“As Cherokees, we are honored to be recognized by the Nation, said Phil G. Busey Sr., chairman and CEO of DRG. “We are grateful for the recognition and the continued attention this is able to bring to El Sistema and spread awareness of the positive impact the program is making for young children.”
Today, El Sistema Oklahoma is one of 13 organizations nationwide that is a partner of PlayUSA, an initiative of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. El Sistema Oklahoma is a partnership program with St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and the Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University.
DRG’s corporate office also has an all-volunteer community outreach committee and its mission is to seek out and actively support local community causes.
